BIG Concerts is South Africa's premier concert promoter. In the last twenty years, we’ve put hundreds of artists on stage in front of more than 10 million people…and counting! From Andrea Bocelli to ZZ Top – and everyone else you can imagine in between. Rock, Pop, Hip Hop. Musical Theatre, Classics and Comedy.
Formed by Attie van Wyk in 1989 after three years staging major local concerts, Big Concerts promoted Paul Simon, the first major international musician to tour South Africa after a long period of significant cultural isolation. Since those early days, the company has grown from one to twenty full time employees and today we’re recognized as one of the world’s top entertainment businesses (the live music industry magazine, Pollstar, just listed us as number thirteen in their worldwide list of top concert promoters).
The staff profile of BIG Concerts celebrates South Africa's diversity. 71% of all employees are women, and half are from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. In addition to our permanent team of professionals, BIG Concerts utilise the services of South Africa's best production and operational suppliers to ensure the success of each and every event we promote. We endeavor to use suppliers with a solid history of quality workmanship businesses that encourage black economic empowerment and the development of staff from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
Hunter S Thomson is often misquoted as describing the music business as "…a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side”. Our sentiments exactly!
