MAIDEN, CREW AND EQUIPMENT TO ARRIVE ON ED FORCE ONE, A BOEING 747-400 JUMBO JET PILOTED BY VOCALIST BRUCE DICKINSON
Rock legends IRON MAIDEN whose new studio double album “The Book Of Souls” debuted this week at No 4 in South Africa, will make a massively anticipated return in May on their enormous Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet Ed Force One piloted by vocalist Bruce Dickinson and carrying band, crew and stage production and equipment.
Maiden will play two shows: May 18 in Cape Town at the Grand Arena followed by May 21 at the Johannesburg Carnival City Festival Lawns.
“We cannot wait to get back out on tour. When we start in the USA in late February it will be 19 months since our last show at Sonisphere in the UK so we are raring to go. Maiden thrive on touring and getting out to our fans, it’s what we do best, so it will be a great feeling to board our new Jumbo Ed Force One with the crew and the gear and head round the globe and get back on stage for you guys. I’m especially delighted to be coming to South Africa, as although the band has played here before, it’ll be the first time that Adrian Smith and myself will be touring here as part of Iron Maiden, so we’re really looking forward to seeing all our fans!
“Of course we haven't decided on the set list as yet and won’t until we start rehearsing but we really look forward to playing a number of new songs live, especially as the recording was so much live. However, as it’s been a while since we saw you all, I am sure we will include plenty of older fan favourites too. I think the fans will be delighted by what we have in mind. We are also in the middle of creating the new show and rest assured we are working hard to bring you all something spectacular, something with a lot of heart !!! You certainly deserve it for your patience.“

The Battle 4 Iron Maiden
One band is still to be chosen to open for Iron Maiden in Johannesburg during May this year. Iron Maiden is viewed as one of the most influential bands in the history of heavy metal and, your band can be there performing in front of thousands of music fans.
The Battle for Iron Maiden will see 28 bands performing at Rumours to choose one for an opening slot at Iron Maiden’s Carnival City performance. All alternative, rock and metal bands are welcome to enter this event which is taking place on Thursday nights in March and April leading up to the finals at the beginning of May.
At each event bands play four original compositions plus one Iron Maiden song. Bands will be judged on musicality, stage performance, crowd interaction and whether the band has the stage presence to open up for one of the most iconic heavy metal bands which has been creating musical waves over the past 40 years.
To enter, a band has to submit a 200 to 300 word essay outlining why they should be chosen to open for Iron Maiden. Please also include a link to the band’s music so the judges, if they like what they read, can listen to the band’s music. Bands have until the end of January to submit their essay. No late entries will be considered. Do not include MP3s or band photographs when submitting your entry. The 28 bands to perform at Rumours for the Battle 4 Iron Maiden will be chosen from the best essays submitted.
The Battle for Iron Maiden will be hosted by Barney Simon, who has been at the forefront of promoting alternative, rock and heavy metal over South Africa’s radio airwaves since the 1980s. Iron Maiden is being brought to South Africa courtesy of Big Concerts.

Over the course of nearly 40 years Iron Maiden has come to embody a spirit of fearless creative independence, ferocious dedication to their fans, and a cheerful indifference to their critics that’s won them a following that spans every culture, generation, and time-zone. A story of gritty determination and courageous defiance of the naysayers, theirs has been an adventure like no other, and with the rapturous receipt of their 16th studio album they’re showing no signs of slowing down. An album that neatly encapsulates Iron Maiden’s huge creative range, The Book Of Souls is nothing less than a 92-minute masterpiece - a cannon-blast of exuberant, anthemic bravado that serves as cast-iron confirmation of just how much they have left in the tank. From the infectious, stadium-skewering hooks of The Red And The Black to the lofty ambition of the 18-minute Empire Of The Clouds, it’s the artistic summation of everything that’s given Iron Maiden such deep resonance and universal appeal. Like the breathless excitement and scale of their stage shows, their remarkable new double-album is emblematic of a stout-hearted refusal to do anything by half-measures and an irrepressible sense of fun.
